Kim's Australian lingerie
men's lingerie buying guide.
Buying lingerie for your partner can be one of the most romantic things you could ever do. Lingerie is an intimate gift which shows you really care, really do understand your partner and have put in a tremendous amount of effort in choosing that special gift your partner will simply love to wear.
Finding that perfect balance between what lingerie your partner would like to wear and what lingerie you would like to see your partner wearing can often be a tricky balancing act. While you will visually benefit from buying lingerie, it is very important that you choose a style and colour that your partner not only loves, but will also love to wear. Whilst your inner most fantasy may involve crotchless panties and exposed nipples and Madame Spank, this may not be the ideal lingerie style your partner would feel comfortable with.
Below we have listed what you will need to be familiar with when choosing lingerie for your partner. Knowing your partners size, style and what your partner would be comfortable wearing isn't all that difficult to find out... choose the right style, size and colour and the chances are you will most certainly get the opportunity to unwrap your specially wrapped present later... enjoy! ;-)
KNOW YOUR PARTNERS SIZE
Selecting the right sized lingerie is very important. You will need to spend a little time researching your partners lingerie sizes. If you know your partners measurements our lingerie sizing guide will help you determine your partners correct lingerie sizes.
If you don't know your partners measurements, you can rummage through their existing underwear and intimate apparel and look for the sizes on the labels - hopefully the labels haven't been removed. Sometimes labels are removed as they could have been causing irritation and scratching. Look for sizes on the items that are at top your partners drawer as these would be the items your partner has recently worn. Ensure that your partner isn't home, you don't want to be caught fondling their underwear! :)
Example of sizes you may find on individual underwear and intimate apparel labels:
Bras : 12A, 14C, 16D, 18DD.
Panties: 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 etc.
Robes : 10, 12, 14 etc OR Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large.
Sometimes Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large is abbreviated to just S, M, L, XL.
Once you know your partners underwear and intimate apparel sizes, you can use our lingerie sizing guide to help you determine your partners correct lingerie sizes.
CHOOSING A LINGERIE STYLE YOUR PARTNER WILL ADORE!
Your best source of the styles of lingerie your partner would like, is getting the style from your partner directly. Has your partner dropped any hints? Does your partner have any existing lingerie? Most partners prefer lingerie styles which provide tasteful coverage whilst leaving a lot to the imagination.
Match the colour of the lingerie to your partners complexion, eyes, and hair colour. Although this may seem an obvious way of determining a complimentary colour, you would be amazed how many people get this wrong. For example, if your partner has flaming red hair they probably wouldn't wear bright red lingerie. Different colours work better with particular skin tones, hair and eye colours try to imagine how a particular style would look on your partner as you browse lingerie catalogues.
Colour is largely a matter of personal preference, but as a general guide...
- Blondes look their best in black and blues.
Sometimes red depending on your partners skin tone.
- Redheads look stunning in all shades of green and
pinks and other pastel tones.
- Brunettes look fabulous in white or red.
Take a peek at your partners wardrobe as a hint to what colours your partner would prefer. If you find a lot of black, white, or a predominant colour your colour choice is relatively easy. If you don't see any bright colours in the wardrobe, it's probably a good idea to avoid them in lingerie and stick to basic black, white, red or pastel colours.
Frills and feathers may not be your partners style. Your partner may prefer the more elegant and lacy lingerie styles. Remember, your partner is the one who has to feel comfortable wearing lingerie, and unless your lingerie gift is suited to their individual style and personality, your choice may end up at the bottom of their drawer never to be seen again.
If you get to the stage where you are totally colour confused, stick to black. Black looks great on just about anybody. This applies not only to lingerie, but to basically all areas of fashion and clothing.
LINGERIE STYLES
Below you will find images of a range of the more popular styles of lingerie.
LINGERIE TO AVOID
Now you know what size, what colours and what styles you are looking for, there's a few more things to consider:
Unless you have discussed "fantasy role playing" as a couple, avoid the leather, PVC, crotchless, peek-a-boo, or naughty "Madame Spank" lingerie styles or you may end up playing solitaire for a few nights. Choose something classy in silk or lace.
Kinky, PVC, leather or fantasy dress up lingerie styles generally don't present the ideal romantic intimate "I love you" gift. If you present your partner with a "Madame Spank" let it all hang out style of lingerie you could risk making your partner feel like a "sex toy", not quite the romantic and alluring effect you may be wanting to achieve.
If you are inclined to buy kinky, leather or fantasy dress up lingerie styles then avoid buying these styles as birthday presents, Christmas presents and Valentines Day gifts. If you are consider purchasing a "fantasy dress-up" item for your partner, get something similar for yourself, that way you can both play fantasy dress-up games together. ;-)
LINGERIE PRESENTATION
Now that you have done your research and have taken the time to ensure that you have the right size, colour and style for your partner you can't fail, or can you?
Presenting your partner with their new luxurious gift in a Woolie plastic shopping bag or a brown paper bag while they are knee deep in laundry or up to their ears in children then you might as well just go and bury it in the bottom of the undies drawer and save your partner the trouble.
Be creative-wrap your gift in some nice coloured tissue paper and finished it off with a bow, a ribbon and a rose, or purchase an elegant gift box or gift bag and wrap your gift in delicate tissue. You could also present it with some wine or chocolates or some of your partners favourite fragrance. Give the gift to your partner when the two of you are in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, after the children have gone to bed or as part of making that romantic weekend away, extra special!
